Basically, The app has been temporarily unpublished from the Play Store not due to privacy violation but only due to the technical problem of business verification.

Why eSewa Was Deleted From Play Store

The real reason behind the removal of eSewa mobile app from Play Store is something else, this issues happened during the business verification process. Before the last two years, it was very easy for developers to publish the apps on the Google Play Store. But Google has issued a new policy for user safety and enhances user experience. If there is any problem with the details and account provided by the developer. The Google will remove the developer profile and the apps in it from the Play Store.

According to that policy, all businesses that publish apps on the Google Play Store must also verify their accounts. According to this, ESewa should have completed its business verification during the period from 5th August to 5th October of the current year 2024.

Earlier, the company was a Pvt. Ltd. From 28 Baisakh 2081, the company was transformed into a limited company. This issue with the name changed has now created a problem in the business verification of eSewa. So, Google Play Store removed eSewa and its company name from it.

Google uses a Duns (D-U-N-S) number to verify businesses and organizations. The DUNS number, which is provided by an American company Dune & Bradstreet. This number, a nine-digit original type, is used to verify the identity of businesses worldwide. Based on the documents collected by Dun & Bradstreet independently from the company registrar's office. It was mentioned that the commercial name of Esewa has changed from Esewa Pvt. Ltd. to Esewa Public Limited Company.

For business verification, Esewa's developer team sent to Google a DUNS number 557769912 last Monday afternoon and mentioned its business name Esewa Limited. But instead of doing the verification, Google restricted the developer account saying that the name and address of the business did not match.

Along with Esewa business company, the Esewa merchant app was also present, on the same day at around 11 pm. Google has informed that 'developer profile and entire app has been removed from Google Play Store' for not following the developer program policy. Until the issue is resolved, the company will not be able to bring back the apps removed from the developer account and publish any other apps.

According to Ravi Shakya, chief strategy officer of eSewa, Google has given two options for removing the restrictions on the account and for business verification. If the name 'Esewa Limited' is wrong, correct it and send it to Google, and if the name is correct, update it in Dun & Bradstreet. In order to verify the business on the Google Play Store, the details in the Play Console and Dun & Bradstreet profiles must match each other.

Shakya, said that although the company's registration paper says 'Esewa Public Limited Company'. the official name of the business is Esewa Limited, so it was sent to Dun and Bradstreet for an update. "Although it will take seven days for the name to be corrected from Doon, the email has already been updated in the database". Shakya said, "On the same basis, the team have appealed to Google for app re-store and account verification review." Google has sent an email saying it will take seven days to consider it."

The problem experienced by eSewa during business verification on Google can be a lesson for other app developers as well. To avoid this, before requesting for verification, you can check your company name and Dunes number by visiting Dun & Bradstreet's website.

What will affect the eSewa user?

The removal of the app from the Google Play Store is not due to security or any other reason. But it is due to the data being changed during business verification. Previously, those who have eSewa installed on their mobiles are running as usual, while there is no difference in the eSewa app available in Apple's iOS app store.

"The app has been temporarily unpublished from the Google Play Store due to the technical problem of business verification," said Shakya, "The customer's money in the eSewa account is safe, it does not go anywhere, and you can safely use all the services from loading funds to making payments."

If the problem of business verification is solved, the company can be expected that the Android app of eSewa will return to the Play Store within a week at most. Until then, there are only option for new users who want to keep eSewa's app on their Android mobile is to share and transfer from another mobile that has the app. Contact Us for more details.
